people

ANCR is a team of faculty, staff and students at the University of Michigan who collaborate with other academic institutions, government agencies and industry professionals. Each member of the team brings a unique perspective and contribution, with diverse educational and work backgrounds.

The people of ANCR, from undergraduate to professor emeritus, are integral to maintaining an environment of knowledge and innovation.

Mike Sypniewski

Research Scientist

Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

Michael is a PhD student at the University of Michigan College of Engineering, where he earned his B.S.E. and M.S.E. in naval architecture and marine engineering. Since joining the Advanced Naval Concepts Research (ANCR) Lab in 2013, Michael has supported and led a diverse set of research initiatives, from generating layouts for distribution systems to developing a decision support tool for medical practitioners. Building atop undergraduate and graduate studies in computer science, he designed and developed a set of distributed, multi-GPU, deep learning capabilities while working for Deepgram. Michael's current research is aimed toward establishing an evaluation framework to quantify how design quality is affected by the tools used to generate them.
